Blogging

August 23, 2008 //  by editor

Well, it looks like WordPress has taken all it’s templates away.  Some of them are coming back, but not all of them. My template is no longer available. It’s wonderful to have a Beloved who is a webmaster (www.thewebelves.com) and has created a wonderful website (www.kalarhythms.org) and a great blog template.  His blog his own custom design. Which he would be delighted to share with everyone… for a small fee.  Well, the template is free, the set up costs a bit. Not much. My blog layout was designed by someone else (see the bottom for the kids who created the original template) but my Beloved modified it to add the things I wanted, like tags. But once he did that, I realized that I have WAY to many tags and started to clean it up. That turned out to be a bit job. I had tags that were categories. From the redundant department of redundancy. It’s a challenge to keep the balance between too many tags and not enough definition of posts.

My Beloved has set up many blogs for other, but just recently started writing his own. He said to me … “This blogging is fun.” Hey, I knew that. His blog is nice. It’s clean and the content is the main focus, not the layout.

Bringing Nathan Back

August 22, 2008 //  by editor

I just was thinking about how to bring Nathan back… besides the obvious just dropping out of time. That’s assuming that Ed Quinn would want to come back.

He could have a good twin – him being the evil version. Or maybe he is the good twin. That would be interesting.

There is the whole time thing. He could drop out of time or come forward from the past. But that would create the whole time conundrum – the grandfather paradox, etc. – like when Henry brought Kim back.

What about the whole alternate dimension thing. An alternate Nathan. That could be fun. But since Nathan already has a beard – how would we know if he’s evil. Maybe if he were clean shaven. And of course it brings up the possibility of all sortsa fun.

Those are just my thoughts for the future. 🙂

Cathood vs Kittenhood

August 20, 2008 //  by editor

I love cats. I better – I have 8. Ish… An 11 year old, 4 3 year olds, and 3 2 year olds. All of them have grown out of their kittenhood. Here`s the thing about our guy`s – they aren`t bored. A bored cat is a destructive cat.

Cats grow up so fast. Kittens are adorable. They have to be, otherwise we`d kill them. They pack all the fun and the rambunctiousness of childhood into 1 year. Everything is a toy. Everything. And they are as clumsy as an elephant on roller skates. If there is something to knock over … just like a kid … they will knock it over. And then give you a look of … “I didn`t do that. You didn`t see anything. Can`t prove nothing.” The best way to deal with knocking over phase … move your stuff. Or get ready to pick up your stuff on a regular basis. But watch out for glass. It can cut paws or nosy noses that are curious about what they just did.

If you have 1 kitten you will need to make sure the little guy has lots of kitty approved toys. And be ready to play with them. Yes… you as a “parent” need to supply interaction with the “kid.” It really does help keep them from getting bored and destructive. And destructive is bad – very bad. Also if you have an older cat, don`t expect the older cat to pay attention or even like the kitten. Don`t expect them to get along. Detante may be the best you`ll ever get. Don`t forget to give both cats attention. They will get jealous of one another.

If you have a pair (or more) of babies they will entertain themselves to a certain extent – increasing the chase factor and the knock over potential (but it`s so much fun to watch). Toys and interaction are still very much needed for multiple cats. It also creates a bond between you and the kitten.

One more essential “toy” is a scratching post. They are essential for climbing, sharpening, playing, and napping. I have 4. 1 small, 2 medium, and 1 floor to ceiling. I also have several scratching pads – flat things for the cats to pick at to help keep the claws under control.

The good news is that kittenhood only lasts for about a year. Its also the bad news. There is nothing cuter than a kitten. It may seem like the kitten will never grow out of being a maniac… but take my word for it… they will. And a happy kitty is a good kitty.

Choosing a look

March 30, 2008 //  by editor

I didn’t realize that it would be so hard to choose a look for my blog. Wordpress has something like 1,600 themes to choose from.  There isn’t any with cows or koi so those 2 were out.  At least none that I could find.  I managed to narrow down the list to 4.  Granted I didn’t look at every single last theme.  There were criteria that was important to me.

  • Cat Sitting on a Wall
  • Sticky Notes
  • Translucent Fluidity
  • YAAARR!! Tis Me Blog!

But how do I choose which on I really want?  I’m leaning toward Sticky Notes or Translucent Fluidity.  Cats… I have enough of them… do I really need them on my blog?  I have 3 around me right now.  Steve & Houdini are snoring and Bubbies is not happy with the room she has.  She wants more space.  Add Archimedes on top of the upside down Steve.

Translucent Fluidity is pretty and purple.  Sticky Notes is fun.  And it the main part kind of looks like a notepad.  I don’t like the name of the boat on the YAAARR!! one, but it’s fun.  So.  Let me go get my quarter and deside.  And probably by the time you read this… I’ll have chosen, so you’ll know.

Catiquette

January 7, 2008 //  by editor

The act of ignoring a cat or being ignored by a cat until such time as it is right for the cat to not ignore you.

It’s why people who don’t like cats seem to be cat magnets.  They have good catiquette.

Open Threads

January 7, 2008 //  by editor

Ok.  Here’s some open threads on Eureka.

  1. Sheriff Jack Carter is remembering Henry Deacon using the memory mess-er-upper device thingy.
  2. Nathan Stark asks Allison Blake to remarry him because he can’t live without her and Kevin.
  3. Carter and Callie Curie are dating.  Where is that going?
  4. Where did Beverly Barlowe go after she was transported out of the bunker?
  5. Where did the Artifact go after Kevin was transported?
  6. What’s going to happen to Henry?  Is he coming back to Eureka?
  7. What will happen to Jack if Henry doesn’t come back?  How will he figure anything out?

Here’s a thought.  Bevery Barlowe was the town shrink.  Jack’s ex-wife Abby Carter is a shrink.  What would happen if Abby became the town shrink?  Just a thought.

Random Thoughts

“Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body…but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand – champagne in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and yelling ‘WOO~HOO – What a Ride!'”

Gasoline Pricing

December 28, 2007 //  by editor

Here’s a question.  Why when the cost of a barrel of oil jumps up $4 does the cost of gasoline jump up the very next day by 50 cents?  And why when the cost of a barrel of oil drops $4 does it take 2 or 3 weeks for the price to fall maybe 6 cents?  Is there an explaination for this?
