In an office.<br \/>\n<\/em>Jack: I\u2019m Jack Carter<br \/>\nJo: He\u2019s a US Marshall<\/p>\n<p><em>On a road with Henry\u2019s tow truck.<\/em><br \/>\nHenry: I was an engineer<br \/>\nJack: As in trains?<br \/>\nHenry: Space shuttles<\/p>\n<p><em>Jack going through blue pastic.<\/em><br \/>\nAllision: Allison Blake, Department of Defense<\/p>\n<p><em>In a jeep going across a broken down bridge.<br \/>\n<\/em>Jack: Where are you taking me?<\/p>\n<p><em>In a village with large satellite dishes<\/em><br \/>\nAllison: Welcome to Eureka.<\/p>\n<p><em>Walking through a lab<\/em><br \/>\nA haven were the world\u2019s greatest can live and work.<\/p>\n<p><em>In an office<\/em><br \/>\nNathan: You must be the new Sheriff I heard so much about.. Nathan Stark.<br \/>\nJack [to Allison] You two have a history.<br \/>\nAllison: Not exactly. He\u2019s my husband.<\/p>\n<p><em>Back in the lab<\/em><br \/>\nAllison: That\u2019s section 5. Restricted to military projects only.<\/p>\n<p><em>Various GD interiors &amp; Exterior shots<\/em><br \/>\nNathan: We happen to be in the most advanced scientific facility in the world.<\/p>\n<p><em>Various artifact scenes<\/em><br \/>\nHenry: The artifact is the last remnant of what ever universe existed before our own.<br \/>\nNathan: [shouting] What\u2019s happening in there?<br \/>\nKim: [shouting] I don\u2019t know! Systems are off line.<\/p>\n<p><em>Various town and GD scenes.<\/em><br \/>\nJack: You feel that?<br \/>\nAllison: Yeah.<\/p>\n<p><em>In an office<\/em><br \/>\nKim: Henry, what did you do?<br \/>\nHenry: I couldn\u2019t let you go.<br \/>\nKim: None of what we\u2019ve known for the past 4 years was supposed to happen.<\/p>\n<p><em>Various flash back scenes.<\/em><br \/>\nNathan: Henry went back and changed history, thereby creating a paradox. We need to stop Henry from saving Kim.<br \/>\nJack: Someone\u2019s got to go back.<br \/>\nAllison: I love our life. I love this baby.<br \/>\nJack: There\u2019s no time no way that we don\u2019t end up together.<\/p>\n<p><em>Jack in bed.<br \/>\n<\/em>SARAH: October 3, 2006.<\/p>\n<p><em>GD Interior Catwalks<\/em><br \/>\nHenry: What are you doing here?<br \/>\nJack: I\u2019m stopping you Henry.<br \/>\nHenry: [desperate} I have to save her.<\/p>\n<p>Henry: [yelling] Get the hell out of the way.<\/p>\n<p><em>Kim burns, Alarms blaring, Jack stops Henry<br \/>\n<\/em>Henry sobs uncontrollably.<\/p>\n<p><em>In the Sheriff\u2019s office<\/em><br \/>\nJack: I think this is, ah, definitely becoming our thing.<br \/>\nAllison: We don\u2019t have &#8220;<em>a thing<\/em>&#8220;.<br \/>\nTheme music begins to play<br \/>\nJack: We might.<\/p>\n<p><em>Interior GD. Klaxons blare and a door opens. Mist comes out. This is artifact research<br \/>\n<\/em>Kim: We are at marginal proximity now. No change in core temperature or ambient emissions.<br \/>\nNathan: Let\u2019s proceed.<br \/>\n<em>Robot\u00a0heads towards the artifact and extends a probe.<\/em><br \/>\nKim: Extreme proximity now.<br \/>\nStill no reaction from the artifact.<br \/>\nNathan: Moment of truth.<br \/>\n<em>Robot is shown drilling into the aritifact.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Nathan: <em>[shouting]<\/em> What\u2019s happening in there?<br \/>\nKim: <em>[shouting]<\/em> I don\u2019t know. Systems are off line.<br \/>\nNathan: <em>[shouting]<\/em> Get them back on line.<br \/>\nKim: <em>[shouting]<\/em> I\u2019m trying. <em>Klaxon\u2019s begin to wail.<\/em><br \/>\nKim: Oh my God.<\/p>\n<p><em>Scene in GD lab lights up as the artifact begins to explode and freezes. Henry walks into scene through the explosion to Kim. He tries to touch her, but she\u2019s a hologram. A door opens, Henry turns towards it and is blinded by the light streaming through.<\/em><br \/>\nJack: Thought I\u2019d find you here. <em>[Jack walks through the door}<\/em> You\u2019re not returning my phone calls. <em>[and closes the door]<\/em><br \/>\nHenry: I didn\u2019t feel much like\u2026 <em>talking<\/em>.<br \/>\nJack: You know you can\u2019t keep reliving this Henry. It\u2019s been over a month.<br \/>\nHenry: I know. I can\u2019t bring Kim back\u2026 either <em>[pointing device at Kim and the GD lab vanishes and they are in Henry\u2019s garage]<\/em>.<br \/>\nJack: Well y&#8230; you could, but not without unraveling the universe. So\u2026 <em>[Henry looks at Jack]<\/em> Sorry. Look you and I are going to be living with the memory of a time line that\u2019 gone. I know it\u2019s going to seem impossible and, ah, I know it\u2019s not going to happen overnight, but I think that you and I should help each other move on.<br \/>\nHenry <em>[glares at Jack]<\/em>: Working on it.<br \/>\nHenry walks to another section of the garage and Jack flinches as he slams some things around.<\/p>\n<p>Outside in downtown Eureka.  A street fair is going on.<\/p>\n<p>Taggart: Then the Phoenix appears. The Firebird\u2026 rising from the ashes. <em>[A kid is playing a video game that is making beeping noises.]<\/em> The mythical symbol of death and rebirth.<br \/>\nKid: Mythical is right. The Phoenix is about as real as Bigfoot.<br \/>\nTaggart: History and cultures are chocker block with stories of the Phoenix. It\u2019s sacrifice to the flames begins our salvation, lest we suffer the flames ourselves. <em>[Kid gulps]<\/em> Show a little respect lad.<br \/>\nKid: Ok.<\/p>\n<p>Beverly sits at Caf\u00e9 Diem as a guy in a yellow shirt walks by and up to Vincent,<\/p>\n<p>Wayne Kwan: Another refill Vincent.<br \/>\nVincent: That <em><strong>is<\/strong><\/em> my famous 5 alarm chili, Wayne. You may want to go easy. Ah\u2026 try a Lobster button.<br \/>\nWayne: <em>[sniffling and pushing up his glasses]<\/em> I\u2026 I\u2019ve been fighting a cold. Ah\u2026 spicy food cleanses the evil spirits. The hotter the better. <em>[mopping forehead]<\/em>.<br \/>\nVincent: <em>[ladling out chili]<\/em> Alright. Don\u2019t say I didn\u2019t warn you.<\/p>\n<p>Wayne walks away. Zoom in on Joe &#038; Zoe.<\/p>\n<p>Zoe: So why don\u2019t you just go talk to him.<br \/>\nJo <em>[sighs]<\/em> I can\u2019t. Everything is all weird with us now. Maybe it was just a one time thing. You know adrenaline, heat of the moment.<br \/>\nZoe: Making out with Taggart? More like a moment of insanity.<br \/>\nJo: Not so loud. I\u2026 I really need some outside perspective here. Please.<br \/>\nZoe: <em>[sighs]<\/em> You want perspective?<br \/>\nJo: Uh huh.<br \/>\nZoe: You hooked up with a guy whose age difference with you is the same as me and my dad.<br \/>\n<em>[Zoe and Jo look at Taggart who waves at them. Jo waves reluctantly.]<\/em><br \/>\nJo: That did it. Thanks.<br \/>\nZoe: You\u2019re welcome.<\/p>\n<p>Zoe &#038; Jo walk in different directions, zoom in on Nathan and Fargo. Fargo looks at Beverly\u2019s boobs.<\/p>\n<p>Beverly: <em>[without looking up]<\/em> Need something Fargo?<br \/>\nFargo: <em>[embarrassed]<\/em>What? Ah\u2026 no.  I mean\u2026 I was just gonna to go get some food. Ah\u2026 do you want anything?<br \/>\nBeverly: I\u2019m good.<br \/>\nFargo: Ok then. <em>[walks away]<\/em><br \/>\n<em>[off camera]<\/em> Allison: Nathan. <em>[pan to Allison and Kevin]<\/em> I didn\u2019t expect to see you here.<br \/>\nNathan: Weelllll, I didn\u2019t expect to be here, but\u2026 my ears finally stopped ringing. I thought I could use the distraction.<br \/>\nAllison: Well it\u2019s good you came.<br \/>\nNathan: Yeah.<br \/>\nAllison: So how are your burns healing?<br \/>\nNathan: Surprisingly well, actually. My last treatment\u2019s tomorrow. I take it there\u2019s no news from the disciplinary committee.<br \/>\nAllison: It\u2019s the Department of Defense. Nothing happens quickly.<br \/>\nNathan: Aaahhh\u2026 It was my call to sample the Artifact and Kim Anderson died as a result. <em>[Beverly sits forward and listens]<\/em> As did the Artifact. Someone has to take the fall.<br \/>\nAllison: Nathan, it was an accident. Let\u2019s just wait to see what the results are before we jump to worst case scenarios.<br \/>\nNathan: Gonna head back to the lab. Take one last look at the Artifact just in case.<\/p>\n<p>Jump to Henry and Jack walking down the street.<\/p>\n<p>Jack: Look, I don\u2019t think you should necessarily <em>forget<\/em> about what happened. I think it would be wrong. It would be horrible. But I do think we should look on the positive side.<br \/>\nHenry: Positive?<br \/>\nJack: Yeah.<br \/>\nHenry: Like?<br \/>\nJack: Like\u2026 Umm\u2026 The little things. For the next 4 years which movies suck before they even come out. We\u2019re going to know where bad guys are going to do bad things before they even happen. We\u2019re gonna know aahhh\u2026 the  ah\u2026. outcome to every major sporting event. Huge financial upside.<br \/>\nHenry: Jack I don\u2019t think you understand, that life is gone. We are not likely to relive many of the same events again.<br \/>\nJack: Well, I\u2019ve had this picnic before. Right. As a matter of fact tonight is the night when I ask Allison out for the first time. I remember that because Vincent was right over there making the same Lobster balls.<br \/>\nHenry: Buttons.<br \/>\nJack: What\u2026 oh\u2026 ah\u2026whatever.  Oh and ah\u2026 see the sweaty Asian guy here, he\u2019s going to trip on that kids hover thing and spill his chili all over that guy\u2019s t-shirt.  And I know that, because tomorrow when I go the dry cleaners to get my clothes for the first date with Allison he\u2019s going to be complaining about how the stains didn\u2019t come out of his ahhh his t-shirt. <em>[Wayne trips and spills his chili on Rob Matthew. Jack raise his hands in triumph]<\/em> Yeah.<br \/>\nHenry: Jack, you have to take a step back. Granted some things may in a similar way, but they are going to diverge more and more. [Jack makes protest noises] You lived through 4 years of a time line that was erased because you stopped me from doing the thing that created it: saving Kim. And the very fact that we\u2019re having this conversation means thing are going to change.<br \/>\nTaggart: Everybody get ready. <em>[Everyone stands up and puts on sunglasses]<\/em><br \/>\nTaggart: <em>[whispering]<\/em> The moment has arrived. <em>[Various crowd scenes and the solar eclipse creating the Phoenix]<\/em> There she is.  The Firebird.<\/p>\n<p>Wayne takes off his sunglasses puts on his regular glasses and pushes through the crowd.<\/p>\n<p>Jack: <em>[watching eclipse]<\/em> Well, so far everything\u2019s happened exactly the way it did last time, including the fact that I still can\u2019t see Taggart\u2019s crazy Firebird.<\/p>\n<p>Wayne stumbles through the crowd and begins to smoke. Switch to Jack &#038; Henry with an explosion in the back ground. The crowd gasps in surprise and horror and Jack &#038; Henry run through the crowd. They stop at a charred body.<\/p>\n<p>Jack: Ok. That\u2019s new.<\/p>\n<p>Opening Credits<\/p>\n<p>Allison, Jack, Henry and Vincent are around the charred body.<\/p>\n<p>Allison: So no one saw what happened?<br \/>\nJack: No. All our eye witnesses were staring at the sun.<br \/>\nHenry: There\u2019s not much tissue left, but I can run a DNA sample and get an ID.<br \/>\nJack: No. I know who it is. It\u2019s aahh &#8230; fat sweaty Asian guy.<br \/>\nVincent: What?<br \/>\nAllison: Carter!<br \/>\nJack: I\u2019m being descriptive. If I knew his name I\u2019d use it.<br \/>\nVincent: His name is Kwan, Wayne Kwan.<br \/>\nAllison: What? Are you sure?<br \/>\nVincent: Yeah, he was on his 3rd bowl of 5 alarm chili. 4th if you could the 1 he spilled on Dr. Brock.<br \/>\nJack: Are you ok?<br \/>\nAllison: Yeah, that\u2019s Kevin occupational therapist. He\u2019s been working with him for years. I don\u2019t know how I\u2019m&#8230; I\u2019m going to tell Kevin that he\u2019s gone.<\/p>\n<p>Allison walks away, Jo walks up.<\/p>\n<p>Jo: What\u2019s up?<br \/>\nJack: Um&#8230; so&#8230; what? Did he get too close to a barbeque?<br \/>\nHenry: None near by.<br \/>\nJack: Ah&#8230; drop a cigarette?<br \/>\nVincent: Mmmm Mmmm. No, Wayne was asthmatic, he never touched them.<br \/>\nJack: Vincent, do you have any special ingredients in that ah 5 alarm chili?<br \/>\nVincent: Like what?<br \/>\nJack: I dunno: alcohol, rocket fuel, what ever else you cook up in that chemistry lab you call a kitchen.<br \/>\nVincent: I\u2019ll have you know I come by my spice naturally.<br \/>\nJack: Mmmmm without a doubt, but that guy ate 3 bowls of your chili and burst into flames. So if it\u2019s not too much trouble I\u2019d love a sample.<br \/>\nVincent: Cool. Help yourself.<br \/>\nJack: Henry, you want to test it for me?<br \/>\nHenry: It\u2019s what I live for.<br \/>\nJo: Well, there is another possibility.<br \/>\nJack: Yeah? What\u2019s that? <em>[Jo makes a motion toward where Taggart was and toward the sky.]<\/em> Awww&#8230; you\u2019re not buying into Taggart\u2019s crazy Firebird fairytales.<br \/>\nJo: You\u2019ve got to admit, the timing was a little disturbing.<br \/>\nHenry: There are documented incidents of combustion when certain chemicals are exposed to sunlight, but this case most of them would have been in his GI tract. He also spilled a bowl, so&#8230;<br \/>\nJo: So&#8230; maybe there is something to this Phoenix thing.<br \/>\nJack: Fine. Go talk to Taggart, but don\u2019t get your hopes up.<br \/>\nJo: Ah&#8230; talk to Taggart? By myself?<br \/>\nJack: Why? Do you have a problem with that?<br \/>\nJo: No. Ah&#8230; You just never let me follow up on my own leads, so&#8230;.<br \/>\nJack: Jo, you\u2019ve done this dozens of times over the years.<br \/>\nJo: What years?<br \/>\n<em>[Henry clears his throat]<\/em><br \/>\nJack: Well&#8230; You know. I&#8230; ah&#8230; mean not time like the present. So&#8230; I have every confidence in you.<br \/>\nJo: Ah&#8230; Great. <em>[walks away]<\/em><br \/>\n<em>[Henry and Jack walk away, past Wayne\u2019s remains.]<\/em> Henry: You see, we\u2019re not in Kansas anymore.<\/p>\n<p>Jack\u2019s police Jeep drives toward camera and turns into a driveway. Jack gets out of the Jeep.<\/p>\n<p>Inside Allison\u2019s house.<\/p>\n<p>Jack: How\u2019s Kevin doing?<br \/>\nAllison: Shhhh. I asked Beverly to come over and help him process the news.<br \/>\nJack: Oh.<br \/>\nBeverly: Kevin? Haw your Mom told you what happened to Wayne?<br \/>\nKevin: <em>[without looking up from his drawing]<\/em>He\u2019s gone.<br \/>\nBeverly: Yeah, Yeah, I\u2019m afraid he is. How do you feel about that?<br \/>\nKevin: Will I still see the other man?<br \/>\nBeverly: What other man?<br \/>\nKevin: The man downstairs.<br \/>\nJack: Do you know what he\u2019s talking about<br \/>\nAllison: No, his sessions were always 1 on 1.<br \/>\nBeverly: Kevin, can you tell me the name of the man?<br \/>\n<em>[Kevin just keeps drawing.]<\/em><br \/>\nBeverly: Kevin?<br \/>\nKevin: <em>[haltingly]<\/em> I don\u2019t know.<br \/>\nBeverly: Ok.<\/p>\n<p>Beverly gets up and walks over to Jack &#038; Allison.<\/p>\n<p>Beverly: I don\u2019t want to push him. It\u2019s an awful lot for him to process at one time. He may even be making up this other man as a defense mechanism.<br \/>\nJack: Well, thanks for coming by Beverly. We really appreciate it. <em>[Allison and Beverly look at Jack]<\/em> And by \u201cwe,\u201d I mean just all of us, you know, in Eureka. It takes a village.<br \/>\nBeverly: Ok. I might be making a lot of house calls in this \u201cvillage\u201d today. I\u2019ll see you tomorrow.<br \/>\nAllison: Thank you, Beverly. <em>[Beverly leaves]<\/em><br \/>\n<em>[Jack\u2019s phone rings]<\/em> Jack: Hey. It\u2019s Carter.<br \/>\nJo: I just talked to Taggart and he thinks he may know what happened with Wayne.<br \/>\nJack: Alright, I\u2019ll&#8230; I\u2019ll be right there. <em>[Carter leaves]<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Switch to Taggart\u2019s compound.<\/p>\n<p>Taggart: I call it the Phoenix effect. When the Firebird appears solar flares emit high energy exotic meson particles. Under the right atmospheric conditions, you can get spontaneous combustion. <em>[Taggart empties a 5 gallon bucket of red gooey yuck]<\/em><br \/>\nJack: <em>[retching slightly]<\/em> Is&#8230; is that human?<br \/>\nTaggart: Course it is. Freshly grown skin grafts from the <em>[unintelligble name]<\/em> Burn Unit. Now watch. Unidirectional Meson particle emitter. Turn up the juice and&#8230; <em>[Taggart shoots a beam into the skin grafts]<\/em> the Phoenix rises.<\/p>\n<p>Jo, Jack &#038; Taggart watch the pile, which suddenly explodes all over them.<\/p>\n<p>Jack: I hate you.<br \/>\nTaggart: You\u2019re welcome. Now, mystery solved.<br \/>\nJack: Except, why did it only happen to Wayne Kwan?<br \/>\nTaggart: Ah&#8230; interesting point.<br \/>\nJack: I\u2019m going to go shower. I\u2019m covered in human.<\/p>\n<p>Switch to outside SARAH. Switch to inside SARAH.
